Dr. Sunil Kaul
Sunil has a degree in medicine from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and a Masters in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. An Aga Khan scholar and an Eisenhower Fellow, he provided medical care during war-like situations in Jammu and Kashmir, commanded small hospitals and health units in various geographies for the initial part of his career. Later, he resigned his commission to reside and work in rural areas of Rajasthan and Assam by not just training barefoot doctors and lab technicians but also co-founded an NGO that works on a host of developmental issues like elementary education, domestic violence, sports for development. livelihoods and treatment of mental illnesses. He has served as the Advisor to the Supreme Court’s Commissioners on the Right to Food and as a State Representative to the National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights on the Right to Education. Having stayed most of his life in rural and underdeveloped areas, he was appointed as the Development Advisor to the Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council which governs a 35-lakh population in Lower Assam from which he resigned last year. He serves on the Board of a number of NGOs and teaches as a visiting faculty at the IIPH, Shillong.
