Academic writing for the audience but keeping your voice intact.
Instructor: Prof. Nupur SamuelLanguage: English
Developing your voice in research writing
This workshop aims to help research scholars write for an audience with clarity that clearly keeps their voice intact. It does so without compromising on the academic intent and content of the topic or diluting it with informal language. Participants will learn to present a voice of individual expertise or authority through the text and how to position themselves in relation to their thesis subject and their discipline. Through examples, they will learn how to share the unique perspectives they bring to their research topic in a scholarly, academic manner through the discursive and non-discursive features of language. Using examples from research on thesis writing and theses, this workshop will illustrate ways in which research students can articulate their voice distinctly and academically.
Senior undergraduates, postgraduate students and early career researchers interested in presenting themselves through the text.
Having a working idea of your research, a rough draft of a research proposal, or a rough or first draft of an academic paper.
